MAPFRE at Volvo Ocean Race 2017

VOR Update: Leg 7 Complete

Team Mapfre finished the double-point leg of the VOR yesterday morning. They finished fifth were the last boat still competing this leg. Team Mapfre’s time on the Southern Ocean leg was 21 days 6 hours 59 minutes and 9 seconds. They were able to push through even with their mast track damage but had to stop for thirteen hours to repair a mainsail tear. During this delay other boats slipped past team Mapfre and beat them to the finish.

Team SHK/Scallywag and Vestas 11th Hour Racing both retired from Leg 7. Team Scallywag retired after the heartbreaking loss of John Fisher and Vestas 11th Hour Racing retired after they lost their mast. The Itajai in-port race will take place next Friday. April 20. Leg 8 to Newport, RI will start on April 22. Below are the standings for Leg 7.
