Description

If you are preparing to cast off and do some serious blue water cruising, "Mistral" presents a unique opportunity. She is a truly turn-key yacht; designed, built, and maintained with zero compromises to go anywhere in the world in speed, comfort, and safety.

She is a Chuck Paine design, and is an improved, both in comfort and speed, adaptation of his "Whistler 48" design which can be found in the "Worlds Best sailboats"

Her specification and construction shows an attention to detail rarely found. Her moderate draft, high ballast ratio, skeg hung rudder with protected propeller, watertight bulkheads, and overall build quality show an obsession with safety that lets you confidently explore anywhere in the world. She has just completed a loop of the Atlantic ocean, with a pause for preventive maintenace in the Caribbean, and is now headed to New England from the Bahamas - avaliable anywhere on the US East Coast.

She features a 3 cabin/2 head layout with 5 sea berths that can comfortably accommodate a large family or crew.   Among many of her desirable features are:

  • 125hp Yanmar 4JH-DTE Diesel engine - 2006 (2600hrs)
  • Northern Lights Genset - 2006 (950hrs)
  • Air Conditioning - 2017
  • Watermaker
  • Diesel Heat
  • Electric Winches
  • In-boom furling mainsail
  • Standing rigging replaced 2024
  • Bow thruster
  • Solar
  • Davits
  • Hydrovane self steering/emergency rudder
  • Starlink internet
  • Full electronics with Plotter, AIS, Radar, Autopilot, VHF, SSB.

and a very long list of top equipment and continuous upgrades.

Mistral was custom built as "Palmyra" for one of the owners of Able Marine. She was designed to sail in comfort to Palmyra Atoll in the south pacific, which she did successfully, before returning to New England and cruising extensively with careful, experienced owners.   Chuck Paine designed an extremely capable offshore cruiser with all the positive attributes of a center cockpit vessel, while still giving her sleek lines and a sea-friendly offshore cockpit where the boat can easily be sailed shorthanded.  Major upgrades in 2006  were a taller single carbon fiber mast to replace her ketch rig, this simplified sail handling and rigging while increasing performance. Also replaced at this time were: Leisturefurl in-boom furling, new 125hp Yanmar diesel engine, new Northern Lights genset, new Awlgrip and significant re-wiring.  She has had continuous ongoing maintenance since then, including many years of indoor storage at Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor, Maine.  She has in the last three years been updated again and is actively cruising. Unfortunately her current owners now need to return to shore, which presents the current opportunity for the right owner to begin her next adventure.
