The Cape 31 was conceived as a simple and clean high-performance One Design without constraints. Designed by Mark Mills, the Cape 31 is optimized for a combination of both upwind and downwind performance in breezy conditions, without sacrificing light air capabilities, resulting in a fast modern speedster.
Hull #14 was delivered directly to the USA and launched in August 2019. She has been sailed exclusively on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans and has been professionally maintained from the outset by a dedicated Boat Captain. The boat has been stored out of the water and under cover in the off season. She is in excellent condition and is race ready and fully optimized.

Overview
The Cape 31 was conceived as a simple and clean high-performance One Design without constraints. Designed by Mark Mills, the Cape 31 is optimized for exhilarating upwind and downwind performance in breezy conditions, without sacrificing light air capabilities, resulting in a fast modern all-round speedster.
The design has proved to be very successful, with a fleet of over 15 boats in South Africa and 20+ boats in the UK, and expanding worldwide. The boat has proven itself as not only a great one design boat, but also as a competitive IRC/ORC racer.
The low freeboard and aggressively chined hull shape maximizes form stability in a breeze and reduces wetted surface area when upright. The chine running forward to the bow helps keep the bow up at speed and the deep carbon fin keel and powerful sail plan developed with North Sails and set on a Southern Spars Cape Town carbon rig keeps the boat moving in light winds. The simple and clean deck layout includes details such as an under-deck jib sheet control system that replaces conventional jib tracks.

The boat has been sailed lightly and has been well maintained and stored out of the water and under cover in the off season. Extensive work was completed prior to the boat being launched in April 2022. She is in excellent condition and ready to win races!
