DESIGNER COMMENTS
“When designing the IMX 45 the goals were set high from the beginning. The deck layout, the
sail and rig plan should not only suit the experienced and demanding race sailor, it should also
make the owner capable of converting his racer into a summer holiday cruiser with a minimum
time and effort. The X-Yachts design team decided to go for a high standard interior integrating
many fine details and using only high-level quality materials. First class teak veneers are
applied on first class marine plywood and another feature is the laminated curved teak trims
surrounding the tabletops".
VESSEL OVERVIEW
Features such as the molded-in nonskid on the decks, toe rails only on the foredeck to allow for
a hard-hiking crew, and adjustable foot braces for the main trimmer and the helmsman, all show
that X-Yachts knows that details make a superior boat.
As with all X-Yachts, the IMX-45 has as its backbone an H-frame assembly of galvanized steel
girders, glassed into the hull and tying the keel, hull, and mast together. The structure is strong
enough to also anchor the single lifting point for the entire boat, which means the IMX-45-all
20,000 pounds of it-can be lifted by a polyester strap, led through a small access hatch in the
Designed with a fine bow, medium displacement, and a relatively wide beam, the IMX-45 sails
well on all points of sail. It is rare to find a boat that can compete at the highest levels while still
offering the accommodations and ease of handling desired for family cruising.
Xcelsior is quite possibly the best IMX-45 ever commissioned and she is the only such model
being offered for sale in the US. The owner went to great lengths to make certain he outfitted
the boat with the best equipment available every step of the way. Family commitments and time
restraints drive the need to find another yachtsman who desires only the best in a racer/cruiser.
