Pacific Asian Enterprises, also known as Nordhavn Yachts, was founded in 1974 by Joe Meglan, Dan Streech, and Jim Leishman. The company headquarters are were located in Dana Point, California, however except for a brief period the entire process of manufacturing the yachts has occurred in Asia. The company began by building traditional sailboats but by the 1980s, they had begun designing powerboats instead. At first, this was met with much ridicule because yachters were use to being on the water under the power of a sail and the powerboats resembled a North Sea fishing trawler more than a sailboat. In fact, the name Nordhavn, is actually Norwegian for North Harbor. The new type of boat became quite popular and the company grew until the economic downturn in the early 2000s. However, even with a recession that was closing other yacht builders, Nordhavn maintained their business and by 2009 were again growing. They now produce their yachts in a new factory in China and maintain dealerships in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Prices for the new Nordhavn yachts can be obtained by contacting one of these dealerships. Previously owned Nordhavns range in price from around $900,000 to about $4 million.
