Bluenose Yacht Sales TEAM
I am Managing Partner of Bluenose Yacht Sales (BYS) team. If you read the “about us” page you’ll understand that sailing, yachting and boat design is part of my family history. I truly love the industry, and decided to use my ten-plus years in yacht sales, marketing, and design to help people realize and fulfill their passion for sailing or power yachting. We have grown Bluenose Yacht Sales as a leader in new yacht sales, and have grown BYS into one of the largest broker/dealer for Jeanneau Yachts over the past five years in New England. I have a long history with fine yachts including creating market awareness for Morris Yachts and doubling sales in less than two years. We use that knowledge to market our brokerage as well as new boats. I have a Design Engineering Degree combined with Management Engineering Education, and I have an extensive understanding of traditional and modern yacht construction methods. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know our clients and matching them with the ideal boat. I am really passionate about yacht design, design engineering, marketing, Sales, cruising and racing, triathlons, ice-climbing, skiing…. oh yeah, and having fun.
After years of schoonering around the world I have been a service manager for several companies here in New England. It has been said that I have commissioned and launched more Beneteau and Jeanneau new boats than anyone else in New England, but suffices to say I have probably commissioned more in the past ten years than anyone else. When not managing my service team I am preparing for boat shows and participate in a sales capacity for Bluenose Yacht Sales. Glenn and I have worked on and off together for the past ten years and our values for excellence and professionalism to every customer are strongly shared.
Growing up I was able to spend my summers at our cottage on the lake. By the age of 5, I was sailing with my Dad and the love affair began. By age 7, I was racing alone on our Sailfish and spent every minute I could out on the lake trying to get better. My grandfather decided I might have better results if I knew what I was doing and enrolled me in sailing lessons on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester MA at age 10. I bought my first sailboat at age 14 – a wooden National One Design – and competed with this for a few of years before purchasing a 19 ft Lightning Class. By this time my dad and my uncle both had boats down on Narragansett Bay, so I sailed on the bay with them for many years. After college and marriage I made my way very successfully up the corporate ladder to position of President & General Manager for a sales and engineering company out of Switzerland. Having taken an early retirement I was fortunate to meet Glenn Walters of Bluenose Yacht Sales through a mutual friend and be able to follow a lifelong interest in selling boats. I presently own a Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 40 and you can bump into my wife and I most weekends still cruising around Narragansett Bay and the neighboring islands.
I was raised on the water of the Great South Bay of Long Island, and began sailing at age five on my father’s nineteen-foot O’day day-sailor. At age seven I would beg the older kids to take me for rides on their Laser’s and Hobie Cats. In secret, my father bribed the son of the local sailboat shop owner to teach me how to sail. I was hooked. I spent countless summers racing Lasers, and then Hobie Cats… and some power boating too, but mainly to get to Gilgo Beach to surf. Age twelve to seventeen I worked at the sailboat shop doing everything from bottom painting, to rigging, to teaching people how to sail. Introducing newbies to sailing has always made me happy, and any day on the water is better than a day in the office. College, a phenomenal wife, and a love for design led me to a successful career in design and advertising, but the vocation of sailing called and I, my wife and two children moved from Tallahassee, Florida to Saunderstown, Rhode Island in 2001. I wanted to replicate my childhood for my children and I have not been disappointed. Glenn and I were lucky enough to cross paths, and his passion for similar interests was evident; it was obvious he loves his job. Once I was introduced to the rest of the team I quickly realized that Glenn was very selective and only partnered with people who truly follow their vocations and are not just trying to turn a buck. I am proud to be a member of the Bluenose Yacht Sales team, and will use my 18+ years of design and marketing expertise and lifetime of boating to help our clients realize their dreams. My children are both accomplished 420 sailors, and you can find us cruising Narragansett Bay, Block Island, Cuttyhunk and surrounding islands on our 30′ Pearson Coaster.
I grew up boating on the coast of Maine where I spent my time prior to graduating from college as a sailing instructor at a local yacht club. I was an avid sailboat racer, and I also participated in several sailing regattas up and down the east coast. Upon graduation I moved to Annapolis Maryland where I began my career as a yacht broker specializing in blue water power and sailing vessels. After 8 years as a broker in Annapolis, I decided to move back to my native state of Maine to take the position of brokerage manager and sales partner with Bluenose Yacht Sales in their South Portland, ME office.
Over 10 years ago I literally started at the bottom… painting bottoms that is. At that time I was unaware that this was not just a job, but a true vocation that would lead me to a service management role in just a few short years. I quickly realized that my passion for boats and yachting was only eclipsed by sharing that same joy with others. I have spent countless hours ensuring my clients receive the highest standard of service; after all they have entrusted their yachts and families’ safety to me. I am proud to apply my extensive customer-service experience to my new role as Charter Manager at Bluenose Yacht Charters. I have known Glenn Walters and John O’Connor for the better part of a decade, and I’m thrilled to be working side-by-side assisting John at our new Harbor Light Marina location. My goal is to simply make people happy on the water. As part of the Bluenose team, I am certain that goal will be realized.
I have been sailing and racing boats both big and small most of my life. I have won the NBYA Bay Championship in both J24’s and as helmsman on a Swan 44. I have thousands of miles of offshore and inshore cruising and racing to include 4 Bermuda Races, a couple of Marblehead to Halifax jaunts as crew boss and primary helmsman and hundreds of one design races from New England to Florida and the West Coast. I have spent significant time sailing in the Caribbean and have a couple of wins in the Heineken Regatta in St. Maarten. I also hold a Master Mariner 50 ton Coast Guard license and am a member of the Water Front Commission in the City of Newport. After a successful career as an executive in the newspaper and marine publishing industry I have been a yacht broker for 7 years selling both sailing and power yachts. My diverse experience uniquely qualifies me to help you find your perfect boat and be there for you during and after your purchase.
